Last Thursday I also attended Whitecliffe MFA graduate Lisa Chandler‘s artist talk and exhibition opening at Bo Concepts which is a design store in Eden Terrace. Lisa talked through her approach to her paintings and the various international places she has used for her recent works. Included in her talk was some of the in depth research she does in to the places and histories of the places she paints and how sometimes she incorporates elements of these stories into her work.
She also mentioned some of the writers who had influenced her, especially in thinking about the ‘un-place’ transitory spaces where social contact is extremely limited and there is a disconnect between people and their surroundings.
